Sensei Mario was born and raised in Chile. While growing up in
Chile he had always been fascinated with martial arts but it
was not until years later that he would begin to study karate
in Canada. In 1977 at the age of 17 he immigrated to Winnipeg,
Manitoba, Canada and seven years later in March, 1984 at the
age of 24 his interest for martial arts lead him to join
karate and thus beginning his journey of the martial
way.Through the years he has studied many styles of Karate
including Chito-Ryu Karate, taught by Sensei R.K. Wilson, 4th
dan black belt and founder of the Winnipeg School of Karate,
Winnipeg, Manitoba; Shotokan Karate, taught by Shihan, Jerry
G. Marr, 6th dan black belt of Midwest Karate,
Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Kyokushin
Karate, taught by
Sensei Angel Carrasco,3rd
dan black belt of Dojo
Entheos, Winnipeg - Manitoba -

.Althrough he and studied other styles of
Karate it was Kyokushin Karate that he became most accomplished in
and his love for Martial Arts grew. On August,1999 after 12 years
of training he completed his 1st. Degree testing and was promotend
to such rank (1st. Dan Black
Belt) by Shihan

Canada.Because Karate has became a way of life for him and
wanting to give the oportunity to people of all ages to learn
Karate and make it a part of their life, Sensei Mario Founded
"The Maples Kyokushin
Karate Club"
in March,2000.Originally classes were
held at The Maples Community Centre and at his home of Sensei
Mario, however, with the support of his wife ,students, and
their family the official Dojo of Maples Kyokushin Karate Club
opened its doors on Novemver,2001 at 1560 Main Street ,Wimnnipeg
- Manitoba - Canada. And on August ,2003 open Maples Kyokushin
Karate Club at 715 Salter Street, Winnipeg - -Manitoba -
Canada.April 2001 Sensei Mario Acuña take one of his student,
Wataru Hyodo
to participate in the "Mas Oyama's Memorial Cup 2001"
Tounament Organized by Shihan Roman Szyrajew in Montreal -
Quebec - Canada.After
the tournament, he had the honor of sitting with all
International Kyokushin Karate
Organization very importan members, The President of KO3 ,Kancho
Yoshikazu Matsushima 8th Dan of Japan, Shihan Roman Szyrajew
7th Dan North American Chairman and Canadian Branch Chief,
Shihan Marc Van Walleghem of Belgium Branch Chief,
Kancho Shigeru Oyama of United State,
Sensei Petrovic Unite State Branch Chief ,Sensei Adams of
United State, Sensei John Kalaidopoulos Montreal- Quebec,
Sensei Dufort of Vancouver,Sensei Joe Addeso of
Quebec etc. October 13, 2001 Sensei Mario Acuña take two of
his students Wataru Hyodo and Hajime Akiyama to participate in
the 5th U.S.A.
International Kyokushin Karate knock down Tournament.

finish in 4 places.March,2002 Sensei Mario take 10 Students
from his Club Maples Dojo to "Matsushima Challenge 2002"
International Junior Tournament on Montreal- Quebec - Canada.
He bring home 15 trophy.May, 2003 14 students from "Maples
Dojo" went to Montreal - Quebec - Canada to compete in the
Kyokushin Karate " Mas Oyamas Gold Cup" March 2003 ,Sensei
Mario take 15 Students from "Maples Dojo" To
"Matsushima Challenge 2003" Montreal - Quebec - Canada To the
International Junior Tournament bring home 17 trophy and 4
medals winning again 3rd.place Overall Dojo.March ,2004 Sensei
Mario Take 17 Students from "Maples Dojo" to The "Matsushima
Challenge 2004" International Junior Tournament on Montreal -
Quebec - Canada ,bring home 21 trophy and winning again
3rd.place Overall Dojo.March 2005 Sensei Mario Take 19
Students from "Maples Dojo" to "Matsushima Challenge 2005"
international Junior Tournament in Montreal - Quebec - Canada.
winning 3th place Overall Dojo 15 trophy and 5 medalsAlthough
Sensei Mario Acuña , encourages physical training as an
important aspect of Kyokushin karate he strongly focuses on
the mind and spirit. He believes that anyone can do karate but
it must be done with patience, respect and appreciation for
the student to succeed and become at one with the mind, body,
and spirit. He recommends Kyokushin karate for students of all
ages, especially children as it teaches them good morals and
good behavior.
Currently
Sensei teaches classes 7 days week. Classes consist of kihon
geiko (basic techniques), kata (form/shape), kumite
(sparring), and goshin jitsu (self-defence).
